"The Appalachians," a documentary that begins airing on PBS tonight, will feature a segment on the Trail of Tears. The Washington Post reports.
The Trail of Tears segment will appear in the second episode of the documentary. The program notes that President Andrew Jackson, who ordered the removal of the Cherokee Nation and other tribes, was from Appalachia.
In the first episode, the document will describe the early Cherokee occupants of the Appalachians. By 1730, nearly a third of the tribe was wiped out by the influx of European settlers.
The documentary airs in three episodes. Check local listings for time.
