Agua Caliente leader welcomes move of museum

The former vice chairman of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians said he is happy the tribe's museum will be moving to downtown Palm Springs.

Anthony Andreas had opposed a plan to put the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum in Andreas Canyon, the tribe's ancestral homeland that is considered sacred.

But the museum, an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, will instead be moved near the Palm Springs convention center, where the annual California Nations Indian Gaming Association conference is held. Tribal and local officials say the new location will attract more visitors.
