ASU celebrates Native American Culture Week

Native students at Arizona State University are busy selling fry bread, choosing a new Ms. Indian ASU and hosting a powwow during Native American Culture Week.

The events help bring the Native community together, said Peterson Zah, a former Navajo Nation president who ASU's adviser for American Indian Affairs. ASU has about 1,300 Native students, up from less than 700 a decade ago.

The week's theme is "Remembering Who We Are: Indigenous Nations We Stand." It concludes with a powwow that runs Friday through Sunday.
