Two members of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Tribe are starting to make plans for a monument to Native Americans that would be built in South Dakota.
Laurs Williams said the vision for the monument came to him in a dream. He wants it to represent the genocide that Native people have suffered since European contact.
Laurs is working with his son, Bryan Williams, on the plans. They envision a drum-shaped building to house a museum. The monument would contain statues and symbols to represent Native leaders and events like the U.S. government's December 26, 1862, hanging of 38 Dakota men in Minnesota.
