Navajo Nation Council takes up same-sex marriage

A bill to outlaw same-sex marriages on the Navajo Nation is the first bill up for consideration today by the Navajo Nation Council, The Farmington Daily Times reports.

Council delegate Larry Anderson Sr. introduced the Din Marriage Act. The bill would define marriage as between a man and a woman. It also bans marriage between close relatives and plural marriages.

The Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma is the only other tribe known to have banned gay marriage.
