Burial ground uncovered during construction project

The state of Wisconsin has notified several tribes about the discovery of a burial ground.

The city of Neenah uncovered the site during construction of a new water plant near Lake Winnebago. Artifacts and remains of at least two people were exposed and more remains are likely to be found.

The city plans to remove all the remains. The state has notified the Menominee Nation, the Ho-Chunk Nation, the Forest County Potawatomi Tribe and the Sac and Fox Nation of Iowa about the discovery. Artifacts and remains could be repatriated to the tribes.
