The Porcupine Grant School on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota has seen a rise in enrollment that has put additional strains on decades-old buildings.

Enrollment has grown 63 percent in the last 10 years, The Sioux Falls Argus Leader reports. Students are eating lunch in hallways, sitting in overcrowded classrooms and working under leaky roofs. Since most kids are bussed in, transportation funds have risen as have costs for supplies, materials and staff.

The school, built in 1969, is No. 2 on the Bureau of Indian Affairs Construction Priority List. That means it is line for $35 million in funding.
