Fort Mojave chairwoman survives recall election

The longtime chairwoman of the Fort Mojave Tribe of Arizona, California and Nevada survived a recall election on Saturday by only three votes.

Nora McDowell said she was pleased with the outcome even though it was close. Of the tribal members who turned out for the election, 134 voted to keep her in power while 131 wanted her out.

McDowell has been chairwoman for 25 years. She is up for re-election in 2007.
