Several tribal colleges have received grants from the Department of Education to teach and train more Indian teachers.

The Fort Belknap College in Montana received a $325,000 to work with Montana State University-Northern to recruit, train and graduate new Indian teachers. The grant will pay for tuition, fees, books and child care.

Similar grants were awarded to the United Tribes Technical College in North Dakota ($603,000 to train special education teachers); Salish Kootenai College of Montana ($278,392 for training); Sitting Bull College in North Dakota and Sinte Gleska University of South Dakota ($296,112 for elementary and special education teachers; and Din� College ($242,60 for teachers and school administrators).

Some non-tribal colleges were also awarded grants from the Office of Indian Education.
