HUD expands home loan program in Oregon

The Department of Housing and Urban Development has expanded an Indian home loan program to cover the entire state of Oregon.

Tribal members who live off reservations and trust lands can now apply for loans under the Section 184 program. The Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians asked for the expansion to help an estimated 85,000 Indians in the state become new homeowners.

The Bush administration has previously expanded the program to cover tribal members in Arizona, Florida, Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana and Wisconsin.
