Tribes press lawmakers on habitat restoration

Representatives of Pacific Northwest tribes pressed lawmakers to support restoration of the salmon habitat in order to increase dwindling runs of fish.

Tribes said imposing limits on the catch won't help the fish. Limits have been in place for years but haven't led to in an increase in population.

"Water temperatures are increasing, the oceans are sick and parts of the Puget Sound are dying," Billy Frank Jr., the chairman of the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission, told the lawmakers from Washington and Oregon.
