Bison from park to go to tribes, conservation groups

Bison from the Wind Cave National Park in South Dakota are being transferred to tribes and conservation groups.

The bison in the park are believed to be genetically pure. The Intertribal Bison Cooperative will distribute 117 of the animals to tribes. The Nature Conservancy already received 20 bison and the American Prairie Foundation received 16.

The ITBC and the conservation groups are paying for the cost to roundup bison on the 29,295-acre park in southwest South Dakota.
