The Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal is having an effect on the Republican lieutenant governor race in Georgia -- particularly candidate Ralph Reed.
Reed, the former national director of the Christian Coalition, is considered the front-runner in the race. But political analysts and poll watchers say his campaign is starting to hurt because rival Casey Cagle has repeatedly brought up Reed's ties to Abramoff.
Reed has consistently downplayed his connections to Abramoff and his wealthy gaming clients.
But conservative Republicans are beginning to feel betrayed, a political science professor said.
Reed has still amassed more money than Cagle. The primary is July 18, 2006.
