Police shoot, kill man on Hopland Reservation


Sheriff's deputies in Mendocino County, California, shot and killed a man on the Hopland Pomo Reservation on Sunday night.

The deputies were attempting to arrest Godfrey Luke John, 41, on a felony domestic violence charge. He was shot and killed after assaulting the officers with a machete, the sheriff's office said.

The Hopland Band of Pomo Indians and the county will investigate the shooting. The tribe is currently negotiating a law enforcement agreement with the county.
