Idaho schools may add Indian history to curriculum

The Idaho Department of Education is proposing to teach the history, culture and art of the state's five tribes to all public school students.

Some schools located within reservations already include Indian history in the curriculum. The rest of the state would be required to do so by the 2006-2007 school year.

Indian educators say the proposal is long overdue. The state says it will work closely with the tribes to develop culturally appropriate and accurate material.
