The city of Santa Fe honored the outgoing president of the Institute of American Indian Arts by declaring November 30 as "President Della Warrior Day."
Della Warrior, a member of the Otoe-Missouria Tribe of Oklahoma, ran IAIA for 12 years. During this time, the school battled budget cuts but managed to expand its programs and open a new campus.
Warrior is stepping down on January 1, 2006, but remain on board as a consultant to IAIA, a tribal college that focuses on the promotion and development of American Indian and Alaska Native art.
