DOI gets new deputy chief information officer

Ed Meagher, the chief technology officer for the Veterans Affairs Department, has been named the new deputy chief information officer at the Interior Department.

Meagher had been deputy chief information officer at VA since 2001 and was promoted to chief technology officer as of yesterday. But he will be giving up that title to work at DOI, starting February 20.

DOI's computer security has been repeatedly criticized by Internet experts and the department's inspector general. The Bureau of Indian Affairs remains disconnected from the Internet due to vulnerabilities in Indian trust systems.
