Menominee election being reviewed for fraud

The recent Menominee Nation election is under investigation for alleged fraud.

Four tribal members, including chairman Michael Chapman, are seeking to have the election declared invalid, The Shawano Leader reported. They allege absentee ballots were fraudulently obtained and cast.

Joe Peters is part of the election challenge. When he went to vote last month, he was told that his ballot had already been cast.

The Menominee Election Commission has since begun to review the 836 absentee ballots cast. A tribal judge has delayed the swearing-in of the elected officials until the review is complete.
