Oneida chairman to deliver State of the Tribes

Gerald Danforth, the chairman of the Oneida Nation and president of the Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council, will deliver the State of the Tribes address to the Wisconsin Legislature on Tuesday.

This is the second State of the Tribes. The first was delivered by Ray DePerry, former chair of the Red Cliff Band of Ojibwe and former president of the Great Lake council.

DePerry said he is looking forward to the speech. But he said the state hasn't taken much action to eliminate Indian mascots, the only specific request he made last year.

Danforth probably won't address the issue this year, according to The Wisconsin State Journal.
