Disagreement over future of 'Pioneers' statue

A meeting and rally were held on Monday to discuss the fate of a statue Kalamazoo, Michigan, that Indian activists say depicts Native Americans unfairly.

Indian activists organized a rally against the "Fountain of the Pioneers" statue in Bronson Park. But the event was sparsely attended, The Kalamazoo Gazette reported, with local Potawatomis opposing the call to remove the statue.

Later, the city commission met to discuss the issue. The Gun Lake Band of Potawatomi Indians sit on an ad hoc committee to decide the fate of the statue.
