1918 letter places Geronimo's remains at Yale

A newly unearthed letter from 1918 places the remains of Apache leader Geronimo at Yale University's secretive Skull and Bones society.

The Wall Street Journal said the letter was discovered in the Yale archives by a writer. The find is detailed in the new issue of Yale Alumni Magazine (http://www.yalealumnimagazine.com).

The letter claims the society members -- including Prescott Bush, the late grandfather of President Bush -- exhumed Geronimo from his grave in Oklahoma and took him to Connecticut. "The skull of the worthy Geronimo the Terrible, exhumed from its tomb at Fort Sill by your club,...is now safe inside," it states.

There isn't a way to verify the claim because the society won't talk about it. But Apache people are upset that someone might have disturbed Geronimo's unmarked gravesite. They have asked the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act review board to investigate the alleged theft.
