Federal and tribal officials are discussing an Amber Alert system for missing children in Indian Country

State and local law enforcement use Amber Alerts to notify the media of suspected child abductions. The same system could be used by tribal governments, the Department of Justice says.

DOJ has been discussing the idea with different tribes. "Amber Alert has shown itself to be a strong criminal deterrent, and any time crime is deterred, the quality of life goes up," Regina Schofield, an assistant attorney general, told the Associated Press.
