Navajo teen learns to walk again, heads to rodeo

Charles Allen is the only member of the Navajo Nation competing in the National High School Finals Rodeo in Illinois this week.

But that's not Allen's only distinction. After both of his legs were broken in a car accident three years ago, he had to learn how to walk again.

"It was painful to watch," his father, Alvin Allen, told The State Journal-Register.

Charles Allen didn't give up and now he is competing again as a saddle bronc rider and a steer wrestler. He learned the rodeo tradition from his father, who is a rodeo coach at Crownpoint Institute of Technology in New Mexico.
