The Miss Indian Arizona pageant is celebrating its 45th birthday this year.
Applications are still being accepted for the competition. Participants must be 17-26, live in Arizona, and be an enrolled member of an Arizona tribe.
Organizer Denise Homer says winners of the pageant have served as tribal judges and tribal leaders and have become active in Indian issues nationwide. She said the competitors are an inspiration to young Indian women.
This year's pageant is being held October 7 at the Chandler Center for the Arts in Chandler.
