A convicted sex offender faces new charges of sexual assault and abduction in a high-profile case involving two boys, including a Native teen.

The case made national headlines in Canada after a 14-year-old Native boy and a 10-year-old boy went missing. They were later found with Peter Whitmore, a convicted sex offender.

The 14-year-old Native boy was released after a standoff with police at an abandoned farm in Saskatchewan. The 10-year-old escaped from the farm.

Per a judge's order, the two victims' names are no longer being repeated in the Canadian media. Whitmore might face additional charges in the case and is under investigation for another case in Newfoundland.
