Dozens arrested in methamphetamine bust

Federal and tribal authorities announced the arrests of 30 people for distributing methamphetamine and other drugs on the Salt River Reservation in Arizona.

The arrests were the result of a seven-month undercover investigation. It netted 15 pounds of raw meth with an estimated street value of more than $1 million.

Cocaine, heroin, marijuana and guns were also seized as part of the investigation, a joint effort between the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Agency.

Many of the people arrested were Mexican nationals. Officials say 80 percent of the meth sold in the United States is smuggled from Mexico.

Others arrested were tribal members and U.S. citizens. Some will face federal charges while others will be prosecuted on the reservation.
