Intertribal court in California swears in chief judge


The Intertribal Court of Southern California swore in its first chief judge on Sunday.

Retired Superior Court Commissioner Anthony Brandenburg was chosen by the leaders of six tribes. He will hear appeals that arise from cases on six San Diego County reservations.

The La Jolla Nation of Luiseno Indians, the Mesa Grande Band of Mission Indians, the Pala Band of Mission Indians, the Pauma Band of Mission Indians, the Rincon Band of Mission Indians, and the Santa Ysabel Band of Diegueno Indians started the Intertribal Court with a Department of Justice grant.
