Utah tribes pleased with first Native American Summit

Utah tribal leaders said the first Native American Summit was a positive step toward improving relations with the state.

Tribal and state officials discussed health care, public safety, education, economic and other issues. Ivan Wongan, chairman of the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation, said tribes were able to communicate with the state as well as other tribes.

Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. (R) called the summit after visiting different reservations. The state is home to the Navajo Nation, the Goshute Tribe, the Paiute Tribe, the Ute Tribe and the Shoshone Nation.
