Cherokee Nation expects 100,000 for holiday

Upward of 100,000 people are expected to attend the Cherokee Nation's 54th annual national holiday.

The Labor Day weekend event is considered a homecoming for Cherokee people. Chief Chad Smith said this year is notable because it marks the 100th anniversary of the Five Civilized Tribes Act of 1906. The tribe also will commemorate the signing of the 1839 constitution.

The holiday events include the all-Indian softball tournament, a powwow and traditional games.
