Sioux man files abuse lawsuit against Mormon church

A Flandreau Santee Sioux man filed a lawsuit against the Mormon church, accusing one of its elders of sexual abuse.

Joseph Ferris, 51, said Elder Richard Joseph White repeatedly abused him in the 1960s. He said the abuse occurred when he was 10 to 12 years old. He said he had no memory of the incidents until October 2004.

White was part of the Northern Indian Mission in Rapid City and was assigned to the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe.
