Terri Lane Henry, the director of public safety for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, has been charged in connection with a domestic violence dispute.

Henry is in charge of domestic violence programs for the tribe. She considers herself an advocate for Native women.

But the tribal court says Henry assaulted the man who used to be her live-in partner. He obtained a temporary restraining order after she allegedly confronted him at his place of work.

Henry is set to go to trial on January 29, 2007, on charges of simple assault and criminal mischief.
