President Bush renominated former Interior solicitor Bill Myers to a spot on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Democrats, who are now in control of the Senate, questioned why Bush resubmitted the names of Myers and five other controversial picks. Myers has already been blocked twice over his record on Indian and environmental issues.

Tribes nationwide opposed Myers for his handling of the Indian trust, sacred sites and government-to-government consultation. In one key matter, he rescinded protections for a sacred site in California after hearing from a mining company but failing to consult the Quechan Nation.
