Gila River tribe hasn't changed stance on freeway

The Gila River Indian Community of Arizona remains opposed to a freeway through the reservation despite a published report last week.

The Arizona Republic said the tribe was interested in talking with state and federal officials about the project. But a spokesperson said that wasn't the case.

The communitys position with regards to the South Mountain Freeway has not changed," Alia Maisonet told The East Valley Tribune.

Maisonet said the tribe has formed a transportation team but that it has nothing to do with the freeway.
