Agua Caliente Band working to fill new museum

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians is collecting the oral histories of tribal elders for a permanent display at its new museum.

The tribe is building the 90,000-square-foot facility in downtown Palm Springs. It replaces a much smaller 1,600-square-foot location on the edge of town.

The tribe has raised about half the cost of the $50 million museum. A change in building site and fluctuations in construction prices have somewhat delayed the opening, slated for late 2008.
