Wisconsin tribes consider state pension program

Wisconsin's 11 tribes are being asked to consider joining the state's pension program.

The tribes would put their law enforcement personnel on the program. It could help retain and reward their officers.

The Oneida Nation and the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians initiated the discussion. The Oneida Nation said it is having trouble keeping experienced officers on the force.

Adding the tribes to the program could require a change in state law. Minnesota and Florida allow tribal participation in their systems.
