Paper publishes special report on Arizona tribes

The Arizona Daily Star published a special report on Arizona's 21 tribes today.

The report looks at the past and present of the tribes. Special focus is paid to the tribes around the Tucson area -- the Tohono O'odham Nation and the Pascua Yaqui Tribe.

With 28,000 members, the Tohono O'odham Nation is one of the largest in the state. The reservation spans 2.85 million acres along border with Mexico, where many O'odham live.

The Pascua Yaqui Tribe has 14,000 members. Its chairwoman is Herminia Frias, the first woman to lead the tribe.

Other stories look at a Hopi kachina maker, a Navajo weaver and tourism options on reservations.
