Chippewa Cree Tribe to start housing juveniles

The Chippewa Cree Tribe is going to start housing juvenile offenders on the Rocky Boy's Reservation in Montana rather than send them to a local detention center.

The tribal council is discussing where to place the juveniles. A room at the tribal jail could be converted or an old jail could be converted into an all-youth facility.

To start the process, the tribe is seeking a waiver under the federal Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act to be able to house adults and juveniles together under certain conditions.
