Oregon expands aid to out-of-state Indian students

Tribal members who live outside the state of Oregon are now eligible for financial assistance through the Oregon University System.

The Oregon Student Assistance Commission expanded the definition of "resident of Oregon" to include all members of eight Oregon tribes, regardless of current residence.

The definition also includes 24 California tribes, two Idaho tribes, 10 Nevada tribes, one Oklahoma tribe and five Washington tribes, all of whom have historical and ancestral ties to Oregon.
