Urban Navajos urged to create Albuquerque chapter

Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. said Navajos living in Albuquerque, the largest city in New Mexico, should form their own chapter.

Shirley said a chapter in Albuquerque will alllow urban Navajos to obtain a share of the tribe's funds and give them a voice in tribal matters. "It's your resources. Why shouldn't you have a part of it?" he told a group of Navajos at the Albuquerque Indian Center, the Associated Press reported.

Albuquerque has an estimated 27,000 Navajos.
