Army won't renew two Alaska Native contracts

The Army has decided not to renew two Alaska Native corporation contracts in response to a Government Accountability Office report.

The Army had issued contracts to Chenega Corp and Alutiiq Corp to provide security at 17 bases. The contracts are worth up to $100 million each although neither company was being paid that much.

The contracts were awarded on a sole-source no-bid basis, a practice that is under fire in the GAO report, which still hasn't been released to the public. The Army said it would reopen its contracting process in response to the concerns.
