More than 150,000 attend Gathering of Nations



More than 150,000 dancers, drummers and spectators packed the Pit in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the 23rd annual Gathering of Nations Powwow.

The event kicked off on Friday and ran through Sunday. Featuring drum groups, dancers, artists and music performers from across the United States and Canada, it is the largest powwow in North America.

Violet John, a Plains Cree/Taino woman from Alberta, Canada, was named Miss Indian World. She is the first winner of Taino heritage.
