Tribal leaders said Congress needs to be lobbied to address budget woes at Haskell Indian Nations University in Kansas.

Tribal leaders said asking for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Interior Department for money is pointless. �They have no control. Ask yourself, do they advocate for us?� asked Joe Garcia, the president of the National Congress of American Indians, The Lawrence Journal-World reported. �The answer is no, they really don�t.�

Garcia said Haskell needs to do a better job at promoting itself in order to gain more support. He graduated from Haskell in 1972.

Haskell held a Tribal Leaders Summit on Thursday to hear from tribal leaders about their concerns.
