State won't charge Northern Cheyenne men for hunt

The state of Montana won't pursue charges against two members of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe who participated in the state's bison hunt.

Mark Roundstone had received a permit set aside for tribal members. Due to health problems, his brother, David Roundstone, actually shot the bison.

Game wardens who witnessed the kill questioned the men. After finding out the permit was in Mark's name, they cited the brothers for violating state game laws.

But officials ruled out charges, citing tribal traditions of group hunting. The state attorney general's office said borrowing or loaning a license can't be considered a crime among tribal members.
