Traditional symbols cover up gang-related graffiti

The Crow Tribe of Montana is combating gang-related graffiti with culture.

The tribe at first bought gray paint to cover up graffiti around the reservation. But tribal employee Albert Gros Ventre said it didn't look right.

So he came up with a design based on traditional Crow symbols. With some bright paint, Gros Ventre and two other workers, Myron Little Light Jr. and Kenny Shane, have been covering up the graffiti and have seen a lot of support from the community.

The tribe previously used Crow symbols to cover up a frequently-tagged building. Several years later, the building remains untouched.
