North Dakota Indian medical student program cut

The Indians Into Medicine program at the University of North Dakota is losing almost half of its budget due to a federal funding cut.

INMED will be forced to cut back four staff members, student tutor support and summer programs as a result of losing $1.4 million. "It's a very significant change when you lose 48 percent of your budget," program director Gene Delorme told The Grand Forks Herald.

INMED is only one of three centers in the U.S. that recruit, train and support Indian medical students. All three are losing their federal funding due to a cut in the Title VII program.

The only programs being funded under Title VII are historically black colleges and universities.
