Conservative Republican activist Ralph Reed was paid $6.3 million by Jack Abramoff's tribal clients, according to the National Journal.

The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana were the source of the payments. But to disguise the involvement of gaming tribes, the money was funneled through different organizations and then sent to Reed, an avowed opponent of gaming.

"He's Christian Coalition. It wouldn't look good if they're receiving money from a casino-owning tribe to oppose gambling," a Coushatta leader told the Senate Indian Affairs Committee.

The National Journal counted $5.2 million sent to Reed by the Choctaws, a figure reported by Indianz.Com and other news sources. The Journal also said Reed was paid an additional $1 million that wasn't included in the Senate report.
