Letters: In defense of tribal sovereignty

A number of letters have poured into The Oklahoman, criticizing others who questioned the tribal sovereignty and tribal businesses.

Mrs. D. George Old Crow writes: "Since all of America was once tribal land, it seems only fair that land left to Native Americans be used to benefit Native Americans."

Gene Pensoneau, a member of the Kickapoo Tribe, writes simply: "Get over it! We did."

Kara Briggs, a journalist, says the man's tone sounded like the "anti-Indian" rhetoric of certain groups. "In rural and urban communities across the U.S., Indians and non-Indians benefit from employment at tribal enterprises, including casinos," she writes.
