Two Washington tribes have reached tax agreements with the state.

The Squaxin Island Tribe and the Swinomish Tribe won a recent court decision. A federal judge ruled that the state couldn't force the collection of a 34-cent-per gallon tax on the reservation.

Under the agreement, the tribes will collect the tax and submit 25 percent to the state. The 75 percent they keep must be used on transportation projects.

Other Washington tribes have similar agreements with the state.
