Three Native doctors in Montana residency

A record three tribal members are in the incoming class at the Montana Family Practice Residency program.

Kris Cunningham, a member of the Crow Tribe; Jenni Bigback, a member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe; and Neil Sun Rhodes, a member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe are among the five students in the class. Only two other Natives have participated in the program in its 10 year history.

Once their one-year residency is up, Cunningham, Bigback and Sun Rhodes intend to serve their tribal communities. "I wanted to be a contributor to my community," Bigback told The Billings Gazette. "Medicine was just a way to help people."
