The sheriff's department in Riverside County, California, will no longer patrol the Soboba Reservation after the Soboba Band of Luise�o Indians canceled a law enforcement contract.

The agreement was signed in summer 2005. County officers said they have noticed a drop in crime and improved relations with tribal members since then.

The tribe hasn't given a reason for canceling the contract. The tribe was paying about $400,000 to pay for the county's services.

California falls under Public Law 280, which granted civil and criminal jurisdiction on reservations to the state.
